Oh boy, you guys missed proabably the best cycling event I have been to in the last 35 years. It was amazing, fun, absolutely tremendous, I only rode because John turned up, I was in ordinary trousers, legs rolled up and boxer shorts with everything in the firing line. We had an amazing race, I tied up with a bit to go, I gave it my all, I almost fell over when I got off, it took me over an hour to recover. I was shaking and weak, it seemed like forever. The organiser asked if we were doing a last 8 or a last 16, fortunately, my suggestion of a last 8 was accepteed. I was too shagged to do a last 16, truly I pushed the envelope well out of shape. I was beaten by the owner of E17 Bikes who showed a pedaling prowess in accord with his capability, he was in the Glade and the moved to the Whitwebbs as a cycling prodidgy... We also went to the same school. The racing was superb in the ride offs, you could not have seen better at a pro race, 100% committed, absolutely fantastic, just ask John, be warned, the reply will be at least.....?
I have been to many cycling events, the raw enthusiasm was enormous, but almost no 'club' cyclists were there. You guys missed a free event that was worth paying to see.
Virtually everyone was riding in what they wore, no cycling kit or shoes, the performances from non-cyclists were quite frankly stunning. If you want your cycling club to adapt and engage with the rest of the world, to create an Olympic legacy, to be part of something, then you need to support these events. I met 3 non-club cyclists who wanted to be involved in cycling and 2 volunteers to train as coaches to start to be involved with their community. The way forward is to co-operate and develop the legacy from the Olympics, everything else is secondary. For the record, I beat John by 1/10th of a second, he might have been capable of best of 3, I was ******. The possibility exists, that E17 bikes might be part of the Rolapulaza league, with regular events every 3 months or so. Please show your support by visiting their shop in Billet Road, Walthamstow, use my name for an intro, its worth at least 10% off. Love and kisses, Coaching later today Mike Beasant
